For centuries the Gallurese countryside was held together by the stazzu: a family farmstead of granite and timber, self-sufficient by necessity, with its own vines, fruit trees, animals and water. Lu Lucchesu takes that idea at its word. Our villas follow the long, low stazzo form, finished in lime plaster, oak and local stone, and they sit inside a working farm that grows the food you'll eat.

Per secoli la campagna gallurese si è retta sullo stazzu: una casa colonica in granito e legno, autosufficiente per necessità, con la sua vigna, i suoi alberi da frutto, i suoi animali e la sua acqua. Lu Lucchesu prende quell'idea alla lettera. Le nostre ville seguono la forma lunga e bassa dello stazzo, rifinite in calce, rovere e pietra locale, e sorgono all'interno di un'azienda agricola viva che coltiva il cibo che mangerai.

We're Paolo and Carlotta. We designed the farm on permaculture principles, harvest rain and sun for water and power, and built the houses to be quiet in the landscape: comfortable, beautifully made, and never in a hurry.

Siamo Paolo e Carlotta. Abbiamo progettato la tenuta secondo i principi della permacultura, raccogliamo pioggia e sole per acqua ed energia, e abbiamo costruito le case perché stessero in silenzio nel paesaggio: comode, fatte bene, mai di fretta.

One long room for cooking, eating and doing nothing, under a whitewashed timber roof, with a wood-burning fire for the shoulder months. Two bedrooms switch between king and twin; the third, in deep terracotta, has its own desk for anyone who has to answer email.

Un unico grande ambiente per cucinare, mangiare e non fare niente, sotto un tetto in legno sbiancato, con un camino a legna per le mezze stagioni. Due camere si configurano con letto matrimoniale o due singoli; la terza, color terracotta, ha una scrivania per chi deve rispondere alle email.

La igna is Gallurese for "the vineyard", and this is the house that sits right on it. Four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, make it the one for two families or a group of friends. Tell us your dates and we'll let you know as soon as it opens.

La igna in gallurese significa "la vigna", ed è la casa che ci sta proprio sopra. Quattro camere, ognuna con il suo bagno: è quella giusta per due famiglie o un gruppo di amici. Lasciaci le tue date e ti avviseremo appena apre.

Saturday-to-Saturday stays in July and August. A 30% deposit confirms your booking; the balance is due 30 days before arrival. The municipal tourist tax, where applicable, is paid on site. November to March: rates on request.

Lu Lucchesu is a working farm run on permaculture and regenerative principles. No synthetic fertilisers, no pesticides: mulch, compost, microorganisms and a lot of patience. Guests are welcome to walk every path and pick what's ripe.Lu Lucchesu è un'azienda agricola condotta secondo i principi della permacultura e dell'agricoltura rigenerativa. The food forestLa food forest

Planted along keyline terraces that slow the winter rain and push it into the soil, the food forest stacks fruit trees, shrubs, herbs and ground cover the way a woodland would. Figs, plums, peaches, apricots and cherries share the slope with pomegranates, persimmons, almonds and citrus, underplanted with helichrysum, lavender and rosemary for the bees.

Piantata lungo terrazze keyline che rallentano la pioggia invernale e la fanno penetrare nel suolo, la food forest sovrappone alberi da frutto, arbusti, erbe e copertura del suolo come farebbe un bosco. Fichi, susini, peschi, albicocchi e ciliegi condividono il pendio con melograni, kaki, mandorli e agrumi, con sotto elicriso, lavanda e rosmarino per le api.

The regenerative gardenL'orto rigenerativo

Permanent no-dig beds under thick mulch, rotated through the year: tomatoes, aubergines and courgettes in summer, greens, brassicas and broad beans through the mild Gallura winter. What we don't eat goes into weekly boxes for guests and neighbours, and the rest goes back into the compost.

Aiuole permanenti senza vangatura sotto uno spesso strato di pacciamatura, in rotazione tutto l'anno: pomodori, melanzane e zucchine d'estate, verdure a foglia, cavoli e fave nel mite inverno gallurese. Quello che non mangiamo finisce nelle cassette settimanali per ospiti e vicini, il resto torna nel compost.

The fifty-year-old vineyardLa vigna di cinquant'anni

When we arrived, the vineyard planted half a century ago had been left to the macchia. We cleared it, pruned the old vines back into shape and let the soil recover. Today it's producing again, and in September guests can join the harvest. Juniper and myrtle grow alongside for our own mirto.

Quando siamo arrivati, la vigna piantata mezzo secolo fa era stata lasciata alla macchia. L'abbiamo ripulita, abbiamo riportato in forma le vecchie viti e lasciato che il suolo si riprendesse. Oggi produce di nuovo, e a settembre gli ospiti possono partecipare alla vendemmia. Accanto crescono ginepro e mirto per il nostro mirto.
